An athlete who is preparing for an alternative career after his or her playing career is over, might not know what he or she would like to do next. During this transition, athletes look for jobs that have an environment they can be comfortable in, and that is similar to a culture of being part of a team. Enterprise Rent-A-Car, “a household name” in the car rental industry is also known for having such a work atmosphere that an athlete would gravitate to.
As a partner of the NCAA and Career Athletes (Athlete Network), Enterprise uses their relationship with the two organizations to gain access to over 220 university athletic departments. They use their partnership to offer help in career development such as workshops for interviewing skills, job search techniques, networking, and identifying transferable skills that athletes can use in the workforce.

When transitioning from being an athlete to working at the rental car company, Enterprise’s Homestead Branch Manager Michael Von Lignau says “The transition is pretty seamless as they’re used to the teamwork environment. We have the same atmosphere as any team, or in any game we have the same team mentality. We usually operate within the same culture as any team, or any group of people who play sports.”
To help make sure the transition for an athlete, student, or student-athlete is seamless, Enterprise has several programs that will help groom an individual. Two of the programs included are the Enterprise Management Training Program, and the Enterprise Management Internship Program. The management training program is available to any college graduate. It teaches new employees the ins and outs of customer service, sales and marketing, finance, and operations. The management internship program is a full-time, paid internship available for students, and student-athletes that consists of tasks similar to the management trainee program.
