FIU Baseball Plans to Upset Southern Miss

MIAMI, May. 14, 2016, 5:40PM– The FIU Panthers will step on to the FIU Baseball Stadium this Thursday at 6:30 PM to play against conference opponent, the University of Southern Mississippi. The Panthers will play the USM Eagles in a three game series which ends on Saturday. Saturday will be FIU’s last regular season game.

FIU (23-27, 10-15 C-USA) is tied with UAB, WKU, and Charlotte for seventh place in conference standings. All four teams are competing for the last two spots in the C-USA tournament. A win against USM (34-15, 18-7 C-USA) will help the Panthers move up in ranking, and secure a spot in the C-USA tournament.

Since joining Conference USA in 2013, FIU’s record against Southern Miss is currently (1-2). The last time both teams met was on Sunday, March. 15, 2015.

“Yes, their record does reflect their play,” Panthers’ Sports Information Director Pete Pelegrin said. “FIU is vying for a spot in the conference tournament. They are playing the best they can right now.”
